Truck Driver Dies In Collision With Minn. Train

PLUMMER, Minn. (AP) — A semi-trailer truck has collided with a train in northwestern Minnesota, killing the truck driver and derailing at least one rail car.

The collision happened near Plummer on Saturday morning. Canadian Pacific spokesman Ed Greenberg says the derailed car was carrying bunker oil, a fuel oil used aboard ships. Greenberg says some oil leaked, and that an environmental team is on the scene.

The Minnesota State Patrol tells KFGO-AM the truck driver has died. No members of the train crew were injured.

Because of the oil leakage, residents within a one-mile radius of the crash site were evacuated about 8 a.m. as a precaution. The evacuation order was lifted about two hours later.

Plummer is in Red Lake County southeast of Thief River Falls.
