Investigators Look To Public For Info. On Baby Found Dead

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Seven months after an infant girl was found dead in the Mississippi River near Winona, investigators are again asking the public for help.

The baby was found on Labor Day of 2011 and though police have pursued several leads and tips since then, they have not been able to determine what happened.

An autopsy was performed by the Dakota County Medical Examiner, which did not reveal how the baby died but did provide investigators with DNA information about both the child's mother and father. Investigators hope to use that information to identify the baby's parents.

"We want to talk with them about what happened to the baby and how she ended up in the river," said BCA Senior Special Agent Drew Evans, in a press release.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Winona County Sheriff's Office tip line at 507-457-6530. Information can be provided anonymously.

The Winona County Sheriff's Office will hold a funeral service for the child at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 7 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winona.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. Thursday to discuss details about the case.
