Tech Minute: 3 Ways To Clean Your Computer

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Spring is the time for annual cleaning and neglecting your computer can do damage.

Over time, dust collects inside your computer and experts say it should occasionally be cleaned.

"Dust acts as an insulator, trapping heat. And heat is the enemy with PCs," says Geek Squad agent Joey Diaz.

To property remove the dust from inside your computer, Diaz suggests removing the cover and using a can of compressed air and blow out areas near the fans, graphics card, and power supply.

Geek Squad agents say to clean two other areas of your computer each year. A computer DVD drive can be cleaned with a special optical drive cleaning disc, which uses tiny bristles to clean the lens that reads a DVD or CD.

LCD monitors should be cleaned with a special screen cleaner says Diaz. Certain cleaners can do damage to the monitor, Diaz says.

"You want to avoid (cleaners) alcohol and ammonia because streaks can become permanent on the screen," says Diaz.
