Twins Recall Marquis, Designate Hughes For Assignment

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Jason Marquis will officially make his regular season debut for the Minnesota Twins on the mound Wednesday night against the New York Yankees.

Marquis was called up from Class AA New Britain to make his first start. In two minor league starts, he was 1-0 with a 1.93 earned run average with 11 strikeouts and no walks. To make room for Marquis on the 25-man roster, the Twins designated Luke Hughes for release or assignment.

That means that every major league team has the opportunity to sign Hughes if there's interest. If he clears that stage without being picked up, he will be assigned to AAA Rochester.

Marquis missed nearly two weeks of spring training in Florida after his daughter was involved in a serious biking accident.
