Police: Brooklyn Park Man Kidnapped Wife

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Twenty-seven-year-old Chia Vang, of Brooklyn Park, is charged with one count of kidnapping, and two counts of making terroristic threats in connection with the stalking, kidnapping, and terrorizing of his wife.

According to the criminal complaint, St. Paul police responded to a 911 call Wednesday from a concerned driver on Highway 36. The driver observed the victim mouthing the words "help me" while driving east bound.

The caller gave police the car's license plate number.

Police say earlier that morning, Vang had tracked the victim, their two children, and her nephew to an Asian market in St Paul.

Vang allegedly grabbed the woman and drove off.

Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said during the nearly seven hour ordeal, Vang threatened to pick up the couple's other two children, and drive them towards Hugo, Minn., and kill them all in a car crash.

"And I'm so thankful that we have this person in custody," Choi said. "And I'm thankful we have this concerned citizen who was driving in Roseville."

Choi said Vang had earlier tried to strangle and head butt his wife, causing her to flee to a domestic abuse shelter and seek an order for protection.
