Andrew Young To Speak At Urban League Gala

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minneapolis Urban League is getting ready for its annual gala, which is being held on Thursday evening.

The keynote speaker this year is Andrew Young, a former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and a well-known civil rights leader.

Scott Gray, the president of the Minneapolis Urban League, talked with WCCO about what his organization is working on.

"It is a tough economic time and, you just said it, jobs are the most important thing people want when they walk through the door," he said. "We run numerous training programs, matter of fact. We have a bus running up to Lino Lakes, training people for construction jobs. We have a number of other programs getting folks ready for jobs."

The Minneapolis Urban League gala starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Minneapolis Convention Center. There will be a reception following.

Tickets are still available. They are $80 for members, and $100 for all others.
