Minn. House Republicans Hold Mass Campaign Filing

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota House Republicans are showing off the slate of candidates they believe will renew the party's majority in November's elections.

As has become tradition, the GOP was holding a mass filing event Thursday for the party's House candidates. Republicans now maintain a slight edge in both legislative chambers, but Democrats promise a spirited fight for House and Senate control.

House Speaker Kurt Zellers was planning to showcase newcomers and incumbents who are vying for a chance to fill one of 134 House seats. Some candidates filed previously and the party is still scrambling to find hopefuls for districts in Democratic-dominated areas.

Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton, who isn't on the ballot, has said he'll campaign hard to overturn GOP majorities as his gubernatorial term reaches the halfway point. Democrats need to up their House ranks by seven and Senate voting strength by four for that to happen
