Cop Who Shot, Killed Man Carrying Rifle In Brooklyn Center Identified

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have identified the officer who shot and killed Dontaylo Wright late last month in Brooklyn Center after Wright was ordered to drop a rifle he'd been carrying down the street.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and the Brooklyn Center Police Department said Officer Kou Moua shot and killed Wright on May 31.

Moua has been a Brooklyn Center police officer for four years, authorities said. He has received many letters of appreciation and he began his career in the multi-cultural cadet program.

Moua is on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure, as the sheriff's office continues to investigate the shooting.

Moua shot Wright on the 5300 block of Emerson Avenue North, where Wright was reported to have been walking, carrying a rifle with a scope. Wright died at the scene.

Witnesses said Moua pointed his gun at Wright and told him to drop his weapon.

Wright's friends described him as a student, just days from graduation.
