16-Year-Old Cedar Lake Drowning Victim ID'd

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities have identified the girl who died after being pulled from Cedar Lake in Minneapolis Sunday afternoon.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner says 16-year-old Chiccena Carpenter's death was accidental. She was believed underwater for up to 45 minutes.

Carpenter had been swimming with friends when she disappeared Sunday afternoon. Witnesses say the teen jumped off a swimming raft and never resurfaced.

Divers from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office found her about 100 feet from the shore near the raft. She was in 12 feet of water.

Carpenter's death is one of two dozen drowning incidents in the area this year, authorities said.
