Boy, 9, In Critical Condition After Coon Rapids Hit-And-Run

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 9-year-old boy is in critical condition after a pickup truck struck him and drove off Wednesday night in Coon Rapids, authorities said.

The hit-and-run happened at 7 p.m. near the intersection of 111th Avenue and Kumquat Street Northwest. The Anoka County Sheriff's Office said the boy suffered "massive injuries." The child is being treated at North Memorial Medical Center.

The sheriff's office is asking the public's help in finding the hit-and-run suspect. He is described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s. He has short "scraggly" blonde hair and a scruffy, bearded face. He was not wearing glasses.

Witnesses described the pickup as a black or dark-colored Chevy with an extended cab and two doors. The truck had a "Z" written on it, followed by an unknown number. The truck sustained driver's side damage, and the side mirror was left dangling after the hit-and-run.

If you have any information on the hit-and-run, call police at 763-421-4760.
