Hot Weather Is Reminder To Check Your Air Conditioner

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – With the hot weather that's expected in the Twin Cities on Wednesday, it serves as a good reminder to check the quality of your air conditioner if you're lucky enough to have on at home.

Air conditioners will be heavily relied on and running most of the day. We're expecting a high temperature in the low 90s, and with humidity, the heat index is expected to reach over 100 degrees.

The last thing you want to be doing on a hot day is calling a repair guy for your air conditioner. Here's some tips to make sure it's at its optimum performance.

Experts say you should have it routinely inspected every spring and fall, and have it serviced regularly.

Also, let your air conditioner use any available energy in your home. If you're not in a room in your house, make sure your lights are off and if you're not home, make sure all the lights are up.

If you don't have to use the appliances in your home, don't. That means avoid washing the dishes, doing laundry. It also might be a good day to have cold meals instead of turning on the oven.

It's also very important to make sure all doors, windows and blinds are shut in your home. Any area where air or sunlight can get into your home will make your air conditioner work harder than it has to and make it more likely to break down.

In terms of maintenance, one of the biggest things you can do is change your furnace filter if it's dirty.
