Charges: Man Brutally Beat Pregnant Girlfriend At Hospital

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 32-year-old man is in custody and has been charged with three counts of second-degree assault in connection with the brutal beating of his pregnant girlfriend, and a number of staff members on Thursday at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, Minn.

According to the complaint, Rufus J. Myers, of Fitchburg, Wis., smashed a vase over his girlfriend's head – who was 8 1/2 months pregnant – and forced her backwards into the bathtub.

As staff responded to her screams, they witnessed Myers stomp on the victim's chest and stomach multiple times. While driving Myers out of the room, a nursing assistant was punched in the face multiple times.

The victim gave birth via emergency C-section shortly after receiving treatment for her injuries.
