SOMERSET, Wis. (WCCO) - There's a long history of friendly competition between Wisconsin and Minnesota. And now beer is being thrown into the mix.

The first annual Border Battle Beer Fest takes place Friday night in Somerset, Wisconsin.

Matt Mithun, producer of the festival, says it all starts at 6:00pm with the "Whiskey and Wings" event. Then the beer battle begins Saturday at 3 p.m.

"It's a lot of fun. Right now, there's about 3 to 1 breweries in Wisconsin to Minnesota," said Mithun.

He says there will be 50 brews from Wisconsin, and 50 from Minnesota. A secret panel of judges will determine a winner, who will be awarded a "Golden Firkin". A firkin is an old English unit of volume.

It will be held at the Somerset Amphitheater.
