Wellstone Son Calls Bills' Ad 'Disrespectful'

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The son of the late Sen. Paul Wellstone says an online ad from a Republican U.S. Senate candidate is "disrespectful" of his father's memory.

The campaign of Kurt Bills posted the ad Monday on YouTube and hopes to raise enough to put it on TV eventually. It closely resembles an acclaimed 1990 ad by Wellstone when he was an underdog challenger in an uphill fight against an incumbent.

The Bills campaign says that's no accident as they draw parallels to the Republican's long-shot challenge to incumbent Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar. But Dave Wellstone tells The Associated Press that his father and Bills would have been "polar opposites" politically. He says Klobuchar shares the same goals as his father.
