Gophers To Play Duke In Thanksgiving Tourney

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota men's basketball team has a big-name opponent on this season's non-conference schedule: Duke.

The Battle 4 Atlantis tournament directors announced Thursday that the Gophers will face the Blue Devils in the first round of the eight-team event in the afternoon on Thanksgiving day, Nov. 22. The tournament takes place at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

This will be the first time the Gophers play Duke since 1989, when they fell to the Blue Devils in the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament. The Gophers won the only other meeting in 1954.

Other teams in the Bahamas tournament this year are Missouri, Stanford, Memphis, Virginia Commonwealth, Louisville and Northern Iowa.
