Minn.'s Paulsen Wins GOP Primary In Reelection Bid

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Rep. Erik Paulsen has won his primary as he tries for a third term in Congress representing the Twin Cities' western suburbs.

Paulsen easily beat back a challenge from John Howard, a 24-year-old political newcomer. In November, Paulsen will face Democrat Brian Barnes, an Edina businessman.

The 3rd District seat has long been held by Republicans but has been seen as a potential pickup opportunity for Democrats. That was before redistricting added more Republican-leaning precincts.

Paulsen won the seat in 2008 after longtime Republican incumbent Jim Ramstad retired.
