Flood Deal Still Out Of Reach For State Lawmakers

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Details of a negotiated flood relief package for northern Minnesota remain elusive for legislative leaders and Gov. Mark Dayton.

Top lawmakers and the Democratic governor met Monday but didn't come to an agreement that all sides say is required before a short special session. Legislators are on stand-by for a possible Friday session.

Dayton has proposed a package of $190 million to help Duluth and surrounding communities recover from destructive flooding earlier this summer. Some of it would match federal disaster assistance.

Leaders of the Republican-controlled Legislature have said they want a fuller accounting of where the money would go before signing off on a deal.

The high-level talks were expected to resume on Tuesday.
