Crews Continue To Battle BWCA Wildfire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Firefighters in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area are still working to put out a wild fire that started over the weekend.

It started on Sunday near Ely, and has burned more than 40 acres so far. Firefighters are trying to contain it by cutting trees and digging a line around the blaze.

At the same time, helicopters and airplanes are dropping water. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is still open for travel, but camping is not recommended near Otter Lake because of smoke.

A large wild fire last year in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area burned 93,000 acres.
