Onamia Teen Killed On Way To Football Game

ONAMIA TOWNSHIP, Minn. (WCCO) – The Mille Lacs County Sheriff says a car hit a 14-year-old girl walking to her school's football game Thursday night.

Mille Lacs County Sheriff Brent C. Lindgren says around 7:14 p.m., a vehicle crash was reported involving a pedestrian in Onamia Township on 350th Street, between U.S. Highway 169 and 125th Avenue.

The name of the victim hasn't been released. She attended Onamia High School, where she was headed during the accident. She was struck from behind by a driver who was heading westbound on 350th Street.

The driver, a 37-year-old man, called police. Investigators say he was also on his way to the game.

The accident is still under investigation at this time by the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
