Blair Walsh Earns NFC Special Teams Weekly Honor
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (WCCO) – After having a large part in the Minnesota Vikings season opening win over Jacksonville on Sunday, kicker Blair Walsh received quite the honor Wednesday.
Walsh was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after making four field goals in a 30-27 overtime win over the Jaguars. Walsh connected from 20, 42, 55 and 38 yards and was also 2-for-2 on extra points. Walsh drilled a field goal as time expired in regulation as time expired from 55 yards out to send the game to overtime after the Jaguars scored a touchdown with 20 seconds left to take the lead.
Walsh then made a 38-yard field goal on the Vikings only possession of overtime to help seal the win. He's the first rookie kicker in Vikings history to earn the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
