Man Charged In Attempted Sexual Assault

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An 18-year-old man has been charged after police say he broke into a woman's home and tried to sexually assault her, in front of her 4-year-old daughter.

Police say the incident happened around 8:15 p.m. Monday on Fremont Avenue South. A woman called 911 to report a sexual assault, stating she came home around 7:50 p.m. and found a man she didn't know in her kitchen. She said he gained entry through the unlocked rear door.

Fingerprints found at the scene led investigators to the residence of 18-year-old Deandre Antwain Eugene Brown, of Minneapolis.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman started screaming when she saw the man. She said he covered her mouth with his hand and told her to stop screaming. He then asked for her wallet or purse.

The woman told the man it was on the kitchen counter. The man then pushed the woman to the ground and straddled her, according to the complaint.

The woman told police he told her to remove her clothing. When she refused and started to scream, the man bit her on the cheek. He then fled the scene, taking the woman's cell phone and her wallet, according to the complaint.

The woman said the incident took place in front of her 4-year-old daughter.

"We see the kids around all the time, and this is the first time I've honestly ever heard of there being a problem there," Dick Studer said. "So it is a surprise."

He was arrested on Sept. 11 and charged Thursday with first-degree attempted sexual assault and first-degree burglary.

Brown is currently in custody at Hennepin County Jail.
