Shooting Charges Amended After Victim Pulled From Life Support

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- An 18-year-old man now faces more criminal charges after one of the people he allegedly shot in September was removed from life support.

According to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office, Jonathan Joseph Corbett of St. Paul now faces charges of second-degree murder and first- and second-degree assault in the Sept. 21 incident.

Investigators say Corbett and 27-year-old Carl Antonio Wilks, who witnesses identified as brothers, were at a home on the 500 block of Thomas Avenue that day.

A woman bringing her two children to the home for a play date had a confrontation with Wilks. The complaint says Wilks threatened to kill her.

The complaint says both Wilks and Corbett had guns drawn during the confrontation. The woman and her fiancé were able to leave the home safely.

However, later that evening, Wilks and others gathered outside the home. The complaint says Corbett opened fire on the group, striking four people.

One was treated, another declined treatment. A third victim is still in intensive care with a gunshot wound to the stomach. The fourth victim died on Oct. 1 after being removed from life support.

Wilks has been charged with kidnapping and two counts of second-degree assault in connection with the incident.
