Officials: 2 Boaters Go Into Snelling Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Crews have responded to the scene of a water emergency on Lake Snelling in Fort Snelling State Park involving two people Friday morning.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office received a report of a water emergency involving a capsized canoe. Two men who were fishing went into the water.

According to Sergeant Mark Ledbetter with the Airport Police, one man who was wearing a life jacket swam to shore. The other man remained in the water for at least 10 minutes. Firefighters in a fan-propelled airboat rescued him from the water.

Both men were brought to United Hospital in St. Paul, where one man was treated and released. The other is listed in critical condition.

Both men are in their mid to late 20s. Their names have not been released.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, Minneapolis St. Paul Airport Police and Minneapolis St. Paul Airport Fire Department responded.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
