Gophers Ranked No. 21 In Latest AP Poll

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – After going 2-1 in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas last week, the Gophers men's basketball team is starting to get some national recognition.

Minnesota (6-1) was ranked No. 21 in the AP top 25 poll that was released Monday morning. Duke, who beat the Gophers 89-71 on Thanksgiving, moved up to No. 2 in the poll and is in a virtual tie with Indiana. The Gophers beat Memphis, ranked No. 16 at the time, 84-75 last Friday and beat Stanford 66-63 on Saturday.

The Gophers are one of six Big 10 Conference teams ranked in the top 25. Indiana (No. 1), Michigan (No. 3), Ohio State (No. 4), Michigan State (No. 13) and Illinois (No. 22) are the other ranked teams.

Point guard Andre Hollins also garnered attention for his performance in the Gophers' 84-75 win over Memphis. He earned Big 10 Conference Player of the Week honors for his efforts in the Battle 4 Atlants Tournament. Hollins, a Memphis native, scored a career-high 41 points in the victory.

The Gophers are the top team to be "receiving votes" in the USA Today Coaches poll, which means they are No. 26 in that poll. A CBS Sports poll has the Gophers ranked No. 19. Minnesota plays at Florida State Tuesday night as part of the Big 10/ACC Challenge.
