Gift Ideas For Your Holiday Party

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- When someone throws a holiday party and invites you to come, it's best not to arrive empty-handed.

Guests often give what are typically called hostess gifts, a little something to show your appreciation to the people who are inviting you into their home.

Many people like to give wine as a gift, but for those of you are looking for some other ideas, Susie Bachman of Bachman Floral has a few recommendations.

"We have this cute little mug that says 'Baby It's Cold Outside.' We added to it, and here's a tea towel to wrap around the mug," she said.

Bachman said that one of the hottest motifs this season are sweaters and sweater prints. She recommended a set of candles that resemble mini sweaters to help illuminate your host's house. And those aren't the only "mini" items worth considering.

"If the person that you are visiting is a plant person, miniatures are all the rage. You can bring a little ornament with a miniature poinsettia, or here we've brought the sweater motif back with this votive and miniature poinsettia," she said. "Or this cute little bowl with a cardinal spreader. We have added some miniature plants to that."

You could also consider books for your hostess gift. Bachman introduced the book "Santa is Coming to Minnesota," which depicts Santa Claus flying over the Twin Cities to deliver gifts, one of a few items with local connections.

"This great puzzle highlights areas of interest in Minnesota," she said. "Or you can incorporate this tea towel that talks about the twelve days of Christmas, and we've just put a little Minnesota ornament on them and wrapped it up with a bow."

If you're looking for ideas on how to decorate your own house for the holidays, the Bachman's Holiday Ideas House is currently open for tours. It's next door to their South Minneapolis store.

You can check it out through Sunday, Dec. 16. Tickets are $5.
