Richfield Girl, 6, In Critical Condition After Near Drowning

RICHFIELD, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 6-year-old girl is in the hospital after falling into a swimming pool in Richfield Sunday morning, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

At 10:56 a.m., Richfield Police responded to a house in the 7300 block of Garfield Avenue South. Upon arrival, two neighbors led the police to an in-ground swimming pool where an 8-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl were in the water.

Police learned that the girl fell into the pool, which was uncovered and partially filled with water, and the boy entered the pool in an effort to help her.

Two police officers, along with the neighbors, were able to get the children out of the pool. The girl was unconscious and CPR was performed.

Both children were taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where the girl is in critical condition. The boy was not injured and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene and is now investigating the incident.
