Suspect Shot After Armed Robbery In St. Paul Dies

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – Police are investigating an apparent officer-involved fatal shooting in St. Paul Monday morning.

Police said the incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. at the Kowalski's Market on Grand Avenue and Syndicate Street. An armed man entered the store and robbed it, then fled on foot and ended up on Ayd Mill Road, where the suspect encountered St. Paul Police.

Authorities say the suspect and police exchanged gun fire before the suspect was hit. He was transported to Regions Hospital, where he later died.

Police say the man, from Brooklyn Park, was shot by at least one officer on scene. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will positively identify the man before his identity is released.

Authorities said no officers were hurt in the incident. Two officers were involved, and they've both been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure in these incidents.

Officials with Kowalski's said they had no comment on the incident.

Authorities said Ayd Mill Road, which is near the scene, was closed between Hamline and Grand Avenues while the incident was being investigated.
