Hamline Coach Suspended, 14 Players Disciplined In Wake Of Assault Charge

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- The Hamline University men's basketball team coach has been suspended indefinitely, and 14 of its players have also been disciplined stemming from a New Year's Eve incident in which former Piper player Eugene Lawrence was charged with assaulting woman.

According to a university press release, the school's game on Saturday has been forfeited.

Lawrence has been released to the custody of his parents in his home state. He had already been dismissed from the basketball program and from the university, pending a formal hearing. He's been accused of hitting a woman in the face.

The student disciplinary actions came after the university said student handbook rules were violated, in addition to Hamline's athletic code of conduct.
