Mpls. To Celebrate Minn. Orchestra Grammy Nod

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra may be locked out, but that's not stopping them from celebrating the orchestra's Grammy nomination.

Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and Minnesota Orchestra benefactor Judy Dayton will host a community celebration of the orchestra's Grammy nomination Friday night at the Minneapolis Convention Center Auditorium.

Music director Osmo Vanska will conduct musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra in a performance of Jean Sibelius' Symphonies Nos. 2 and 5. The orchestra's performance of those symphonies is nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance.

Management locked out the musicians on Oct. 1 after the two sides failed to reach agreement on a new contract. The Minnesota Orchestra has canceled concerts through mid-February.

The Grammys will be presented Feb. 10 in Los Angeles.
