Man Dies After Assault At St. Paul Bar

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Police are asking for help finding whoever is responsible for a deadly assault at a St. Paul bar.

Authorities say two people were injured during an incident at the Moonshine Saloon on the 1100 block of 7th Street E.  Both people were taken to Regions Hospital, where police say a man later died from injuries inflicted while at the bar. The assault happened shortly before a busy night at the bar came to a close around 1:50 a.m. Saturday.

St. Paul Police Sargent Paul Paulos says there may be more than one suspect.

"We do believe someone who was (there) knows something.  They know what happened, why it happened, and who these people are. So with that many people, they know who did it," says Paulos.

A woman who lives in the same building says she didn't hear any commotion around the time of the incident. Mee Veang says she feels safer inside her apartment with her family because of how busy the Moonshine Saloon can get.

"Right now it's ok," says Veang.  "Hopefully nothing happens in the future."

Police say there haven't been any significant incidents at this bar before the one early Saturday morning.

When St. Paul investigators arrived at the scene, two men were injured and blood was on the sidewalk. Police at this point aren't sure how the victims were injured.

"We don't know if he was stabbed, cut, shot, whatever," Sgt. Paulos said about the deceased, whose information has yet to be released.

Customers at the crowded bar will be relied on for answers since police say there is no surveillance video from the bar to help find potential suspects.  Sargent  Paulos says there were reports of more than 25 to 30 people at the bar who fled the scene after the assault, and that police are counting on them to provide answers.

People who may have information that could help police are asked to call (651) 266-5650.
