Michigan Tech Skates To 5-1 Win Over St. Cloud St.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — Michigan Tech scored three times in the first five minutes of the game and went on to beat St. Cloud State 5-1 Saturday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Riley Sweeney's goal at 4:23 gave Michigan Tech (11-17-4, 7-15-4) a 3-0 lead against the WCHA leaders. The loss, combined with a win by Minnesota and tie by North Dakota, leaves St. Cloud State with a two-point lead in the race for the a McNaughton Cup.
Alex Petan had a goal and two assists and Jujhar Khaira and Sweeney had a goal and assist each.
Jamie Phillips made 36 saves for Michigan Tech, which was outshot 37-27.
Ryan Faragher and Rasmus Reijola combined for 22 saves for St. Cloud State (20-13-1, 17-8-1).
