Fallen Officer Honored On The Basketball Court

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (WCCO) - Friends and former co-workers hit the hardwood Saturday to support a police officer who died in the line of duty.

Cold Spring officer Tom Decker died while responding to a call last November. Police and law enforcement officals from Dakota County participated in a four-team charity basketball tournament at Apple Valley High School to benefit his family.

This is the third time police have held this kind of tournament in the last two years. Mahnomen Deputy Chris Dewey and Lake City Police officer Shawn Schneider were honored in previous benefits.

Sgt. Booker Hodges of the Dakota County Sheriff's office says these events are to show continued support for families of the fallen.

"We just want to show the families of officers who have given their lives that they'll never be forgotten, and that the community supports what they did," Hodges said.

Donations can be sent to one of the following memorial funds for Officer Tom Decker:
