Attorney General Will Probe Fairview Acquisition

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Attorney General Lori Swanson says she is investigating the potential takeover of Fairview Health Services by a South Dakota-based company.

Swanson said in a news release Tuesday that she is planning one or more public hearings, set to begin on April 7, to gather input on Sanford Health's proposal to take over Fairview. Fairview has a deep history in Minnesota, now running many hospitals and clinics throughout the state, including research and training facilities at the University of Minnesota.

Swanson says she's troubled that the fate of an organization integral to Minnesota's health is being decided by a small group of hospital executives.
