ButiFitness At Sparrow Studios Burns Calories

EAGAN, Minn. (WCCO) -- It's been called one of the hottest new workouts of the year. ButiFitness is designed to do exactly what you think.

"You shake your booty a lot." "Didn't know your body could move like that!" "They are poses not found in nature," Tiffany Anderson and Cathy Gauger said.

They've both been taking classes regularly. ButiFitness has been rocking both the east and west coasts in recent months. Now it has made its way to Minnesota at Sparrow Studios in Eagan.

Instructor Lisa Given leads the high-intensity classes.

"Buti is a fusion of yoga and dance with plyometric, cardio, muscle conditioning and stretching woven into the practice," Given said.

Celebrity trainer and competitive skier Bizzie Gold created the workout.

"Bizzie was an athletic skier, very competitive. She would spend three hours in a gym," Given said. "After having a baby, she wanted to condense her work out and make it quicker but still effective. So she came up with Buti."

It's a 60-minute high-intensity class. The music is different and so are the moves. The lights are dimmed, the room is warmed, and the bodies are close

"We like to share sweat," Anderson and Gauger agreed.

And they are burning some serious calories.

"People are burning 800 to 1,200 calories a class for a 60-minute class," Given said.

Deb Evans from St. Paul is a regular ButiFitness student, but it took her a little time to warm up to the moves.

"That class in particular is quite different. The first time I did it, I was like, 'I'm never doing this again,'" she said. "I'm like 'OK, I'll give it another try.' I did and fell in love with it. I do it almost every single week."

The class can leave you blushing, but will leave you sweating.

"It's fun, it's different, it's sexy, it's athletic, and people have a great time," Given said.

A drop in class at Sparrow studios costs $18. A five pack is $70, and a 10 pack is $125. Memberships are available. They also offer other classes like yoga and barre.
