Central Corridor LRV Makes Inaugural Appearance

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A sign that the long-awaited Central Corridor project is nearing its end? The first Green Line light rail vehicle is making its inaugural appearance on Sunday.

The new Green Line is the first light rail connection between Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Power isn't up and running on the line yet, so the LRV was pulled with a semi-trailer cab as part of Sunday's testing.

On Sunday, the railcar mover towed the train at walking speed to test the new operations and verify clearance for the light rail line.

The trip will take between 8 to 12 hours.

The return move has been planned for Wednesday.

The Green Line is slated to be fully operational by mid-2014. It's especially great news for the city of St. Paul that has dealt with the brunt of the construction for the past few years.
