Authorities Identify Minn. Semi Driver Killed In Wis. Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have identified the semi-truck driver who was killed in a crash early Thursday morning near Menomonie, Wis.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. along Interstate 94 in Dunn County. Authorities said a truck being driven by 45-year-old John Philippi from Stacy, Minn. collided with another semi at mile marker 35.

The Dunn County Medical Examiner pronounced Philippi dead at the scene. Authorities said he drove for Logistics Services out of Eagan.

The other driver involved in the crash -– 48-year-old Robert Denton from Mattoon, Ill. -- suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews brought him to a local hospital.

The crash detoured traffic off I-94 during Thursday morning, sending east-bound cars on I-94 to northbound Highway 128, to eastbound Highway 12 and then to Menomonie. When in the city, drivers could get back on I-94.

Authorities still did not say whether the wintry weather played a role. A two-day spring snowstorm dumped more than a foot of snow in the area on Wednesday and Thursday.
