MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time to start planning some weekend fun. This weekend, celebrate Memorial Day at Fort Snelling, Como Zoo, and — despite chilly weather — even the aquatic centers of St. Paul.

St. Paul Waterparks
Even with less than spring-like weather, St. Paul’s outdoor aquatic centers open for some pre-season swimming Saturday. Both the Como Pool and Highland Aquatic Center are award-winning water parks worth checking out. They will be open just weekends until June 8, when full summer hours start. Most Minneapolis pools don’t open until Saturday, June 1 or Wednesday, June 5.

Sparky The Sea Lion Shows
Have you ever wondered what a sea lion dreams about? Get a rare glimpse into Sparky’s dream world starting this Saturday at the Como Park Zoo. Visitors can see Sparky, meet walruses, and visit the rainforest. Sparky’s shows are at 11:30 a.m. daily with an additional show at 3:00 p.m. on weekends.

Fort Snelling
This Memorial Day, enjoy opening weekend at Historic Fort Snelling. Explore historic buildings, visit with costumed interpreters and learn about life in early Minnesota. Children can try out the History Hunt scavenger hunt, earn a special Fort Kid’s button and play games that were popular in the 1800s. And on Memorial Day, guests can travel through the past with a living timeline of military life.
