Minn. Judges Serve Lunch At Dorothy Day Center
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota Supreme Court justices, Court of Appeals judges, and other members of the judicial branch will be serving lunch to the needy at the Dorothy Day Center, as part of an effort to reach out to people in the community.
The barbecue at the Dorothy Day Center has become an annual event. In the first 10 years, judges and court staff have served more than 5,000 meals to those in need. This year, they expect to serve about 550 meals.
Court of Appeals Judge Jill Flaskamp Halbrooks says it's an honor to participate in the cookout. And she says it's important to help the community put a face to members of the judicial branch.
The lunch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Dorothy Day Center in St. Paul.
