11 Rescued After Houseboat Capsizes On Mississippi River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Nearly a dozen people are recovering Monday morning after authorities said their houseboat capsized in the Mississippi River.

The accident apparently went over a roller gate at Lock and Dam 7 near Dresbach, Wis., around 5:30 p.m. Monday. That's just north of La Crosse. Video shows all but the roof was submerged in the water. Authorities said lock and dam employees helped pull the 11 people who were on board to safety.

"It's a good thing. It could have been real nasty. The water is cold right now and it could have been a real disaster, so when we heard that everyone was accounted for that was a blessing," said La Crescent Fire Chief John Meyer.

Authorities said nobody was seriously injured, but some people were taken to the hospital.
