Thompson, Zeller Jump In Governor's Race
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - The race for governor is getting crowded.
Another well-known Republican is throwing his hat in the race. State Senator Dave Thompson confirmed to WCCO's Pat Kessler that he will file the legal papers necessary on Monday.
He will formally announce his candidacy at a gathering on Wednesday.
State Representative and former House Speaker Kurt Zeller is expected to announce his candidacy Sunday.
Two other Republicans - Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson and Venture Capitalist Scott Honour - have already announced they're running.
Governor Mark Dayton says he will run again in 2014. Unseating him will be a challenge for any Republican candidate.
A Star Tribune poll shows Dayton has a 57-percent approval rating.
