Minnesota Corn Knee-High By 4th Of July

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota's corn crop has grown slower than the average this year, but it looks like the crop will be knee-high by the Fourth of July.

The weekly crop report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture says corn statewide grew an average of seven inches last week, and is currently about 17 inches tall. That's below last year's height of 47 inches and the average of 32 inches.

The corn crop is 97 percent emerged, and corn condition is rated 58 percent good or excellent.

Soybean planting is 96 percent complete. The average soybean height is 5 inches tall, compared with the average height of 9 inches.

Last week there were 4.1 days suitable for field work in Minnesota — the most so far this year after a cold, wet spring.
