Willingham Hits DL With Torn Meniscus

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins slugger Josh Willingham has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a torn meniscus in his left knee.

The Twins announced the move on Tuesday, one day after Willingham was scratched after feeling discomfort in his knee during pregame warmups. The Twins say he also has a bone bruise on the knee.

Willingham has struggled this season coming off of a career year last year. He is hitting .224 with 10 homers and 37 RBIs. The injury depletes an already thin Twins outfield and left them with few options.

The Twins were hoping to let Aaron Hicks get some extended at-bats at Triple-A Rochester during a rehab assignment. Instead, he's been recalled after hitting .190 in six games.
