Police: Eden Prairie Woman Dies After Tree Falls On Her

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 56-year-old Eden Prairie woman died Friday evening when a large basswood tree fell on her, pinning her underneath.

Eden Prairie police said they got a call about thee tree falling and someone screaming in Miller Park just after 5:20 p.m. When officers and paramedics arrived at the scene, near Belfast Cove and George Moran Drive, they found the woman dead. She had been walking her dog alongside a friend on a city trail when the tragedy occurred.

Katie Bengtson, a police spokesperson, said the tree was about 90 years old and 30 inches in diameter. She said the tree was alive and showed no obvious signs of disease. Winds of up to 23 mph were recorded in the area around the time the tree fell. The city parks department is investigating the scene.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office has yet to identify the woman.

The incident remains under investigation.
