Driver Hurt After Tanker Truck Rolls Near Hibbing
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities in northern Minnesota say a truck driver was hospitalized Friday morning after a tanker truck rolled over near Hibbing.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash on Highway 5. When authorities arrived, a tanker truck carrying about 45,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate had rolled over. The sheriff's office said it appears the only item leaking was hydraulic fluid from the tractor.
Authorities said it didn't appear that any ammonium nitrate had gotten out of the tanker truck. Arrangements were being made with a private contractor to transfer the chemical from the vehicle.
Authorities said there have been no evacuations in the area as a result and none are planned. The driver of the truck was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, and what led up to the accident is under investigation.
