Authorities ID Woman Killed In Minneapolis Stabbing

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said Monday a 39-year-old woman was the victim in a fatal stabbing in Minneapolis Wednesday, according to a report released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing at about 3:06 a.m. on Aug. 21 in the area of East Lake Street and 5th Avenue South. When authorities arrived, they found a woman lying in the street who had been stabbed. She was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where she later died.

Police said it appears that the victim and a female suspect had an altercation that turned physical, leading up to the stabbing. The victim was identified Monday as Catherine Banks of Minneapolis. The medical examiner said she died of multiple sharp force injuries and that her death was a murder.

Police said no arrests have been made, but it doesn't appear to be a random incident and they're looking for a suspect. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Minneapolis Police at (612) 292-8477.
