EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says he is hopeful he will have defensive tackle Kevin Williams back from a knee injury in time for the season opener at Detroit.

Williams was injured on a low block in a game against San Francisco on Sunday night. The team says Williams has a significantly bruised and hyperextended right knee.

Frazier says Williams is listed as day to day and the team will monitor his progress as the opener against the Lions on Sept. 8 approaches. Frazier says he has spoken to NFL officials about the hit by Joe Looney.

Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway calls the hit "really quite ridiculous." He says the NFL needs to hold offensive players accountable at the same level they do players on defense.
