Man Struck, Killed By Lightning In Pine County

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 53-year-old man is dead after being struck by lightning in Sturgeon Lake, Minn. Monday, according to the Pine County Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 7:35 p.m., the Pine County Dispatch received a medical call to an address on Alder Loop stating that a man was struck by lightning and CPR was in progress.

After emergency responders arrived, the victim was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake where he died from his injuries.

An investigation revealed that the man was standing in a large puddle of water near a tree when the tree and victim were struck by lightning.

The victim will be identified pending the notification of his family.

The case remains under investigation.
