Man In Custody After Burnsville Gas Station Standoff

BURNSVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) - One man is behind bars after a standoff with police that forced a busy highway to close early Saturday evening.

According to Burnsville Police, a man with a sawed-off shotgun entered the Holiday Gas Station on Highway 13 and Nicollet Avenue in Burnsville at 6:15 p.m.

The man fired once in to the ceiling, and took two employees and a customer hostage.

Police arrived soon after, and were able to talk the man down to the point of surrender. The gunman made no demands during the standoff.

The Bloomington bomb squad was called in as a precautionary measure after a suspicious package was found in the parking lot. Authorities are not sure if the package was connected to the suspect.

They are also not sure if the gunman's original intent was robbery, and are currently calling it a "resolved hostage situation."

The three hostages were unharmed, and no officers were hurt.
