Minneapolis Offers Trees To Replace Storm Losses

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minneapolis homeowners who lost trees in the severe storm June 21st can order low-cost replacements starting Monday.

The city is offering about 500 trees for $25. Orders can be placed at 8 a.m. Monday until Sept. 20 or earlier if they sell out.

Homeowners who order the trees can pick them up Sept. 26 and Sept. 28 at the Minneapolis Impound Lot. Volunteers will be available to help load each tree and a complimentary bag of mulch.

Seven species will be available: Honeycrisp apple, Heritage river birch, hackberry, Harvest Gold linden, Heritage oak, Regal Prince oak and Royal Star magnolia.

The Minneapolis Park Board estimates 3,000 trees on public land in the city were destroyed or damaged in the storm; the number on private property is not known.
