Top EPA Official To Visit Revitalized Minn. Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A top official from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is getting an up-close look at a Minneapolis lake to highlight turnaround strategies for once-impaired waters.

EPA Water Administrator Nancy Stoner planned Wednesday to tour Powderhorn Lake with a leader from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

A decade ago, the lake was considered impaired. But as of last year it was deemed restored.

The turnaround is attributed to storm water treatment, rain gardens and other steps to reduce algae.

Watershed health is the focus of a gathering of officials from 12 states, the federal government and Native American tribes being held this week in Minneapolis.
